Review: Into the Darkness

Image
Into the Darkness by Nora Ash My rating: 1 of 5 stars Do not read this book if you have issues with grammar and sentence structure. If you have issues with England's English and slang this book is not for you. I don't normally have an issue with that sort of thing..yes it's irritating but it's manageable however; in this particular book I was getting whiplash between the two opposing cultures. Simply put it was a story written by an English woman about an American. That or she's an American writing a story about a Brit in America. I couldn't figure it out and it was sooo confusing. Amazon apparently decided to throw me into the cultural vortex that is Britain vs America and I have to say I believe I was the loser in this one. The story is almost non existent instead the author jumps straight into sex. That in an of itself is disappointing as the bare bones of a good story idea was actually there. Unrealized potential is perhap

Review of These Dark Wings by John Owen Theobald

Image
These Dark Wings by John Own Theobald, Thank you to Netgalley for a couple of this eArc for review.. Anna is sent to live in the tower with her uncle after her mother dies during a bombing! Once there Anna begins to learn the old tales, that as long as there are ravens in the tower England will stand, but should they all be gone, then the country will fall. Soon after she arrives, the Ravens starting disappearing or dying, and Anna can't quite figure out what is going on. Will she be able to say Grip and find Mabel or will London fall in 1940 because the ravens have all gone. I will say I am tad disappointed, I think I was expecting a fantasy, and that wasn't what it is. More historical fiction, now that being said I did enjoy the book. It was interesting to see what was going on in 1940, when England was not doing so well in the war. To realize that many people thought England would be invaded, and that they were poised to lose everything. It's heartbreaking an

Review: Game for Marriage

Game for Marriage by Karen Erickson My rating: 3 of 5 stars This review is part one of our "Kindle recommendations" book reviews. If you're new to our book review blog let me run down some basic tenants here. First off we review anything except biographies and autobiographies so be prepared to see reviews of all different types of genres and repeats of series that we're both reading. When possible we'll always strive to link a book review with other books in that genre or that follow the same story tropes so you, our faithful readers, will have OPTIONS! No one pays us to write these so we don't have anyone to please but ourselves and we hope you understand these are our OPINIONS of the works that we've read. You are under no obligation to agree with us-we won't send the authors to your house to beat you up if you don't like a book we've reviewed and vise versa. L

Wake the Hollow by Gaby Triana

Review of Wake the Hollow by Gaby Triana Thank you to Entangled Teen and Netgalley for eArc in exchange for an honest review.  So where do I start, how about I read this book from start to finish today. Seriously loved it, it took me a little bit to get into it, but once the story got going I couldn't stop I had to know what was going on. Micaela returns to Sleepy Hollow after learning about the death of her mother. She knows something is going on, because she received a note from her mother begging her to come back just days before her death. Micaela knows there is a deeper issue because her mother sent the note to her best friend and not to Micaela. Once back in Sleepy Hollow she learns that one of Washing Irving's journals is missing and that many suspect her mother was the culprit. Mica stays with her childhood friend Bram, and is immediately torn between him and the handsome assistant teacher Dane. As she learns more and more Mica begins to suspect her mother

They made me an offer I couldn't refuse.

My inbox has been flooded with mafia fiction. Normally I'd say pass unless there's a mystery involved but I was persuaded to try it. I'm sort of glad that I did. So without further ado here's my review of my brief foray into Mafia Fiction. The Sin Trilogy: This was a three for one so I'll break this review into three parts. Book one, A Necessary Sin , kicks off this trilogy with our main character Bleu MacAllister. She's a trained FBI agent who goes off on her own time to infiltrate a Scottish Mafia known as The Fellowship. She's not doing this for work but to settle a personal vendetta against the man she believes murdered her mother and attempted to murder her when she was 7 years old. Her adopted father Harry MacAllister, also a trained veteran of the FBI, has spent years training Bleu to do this very thing. Now Harry is dying of cancer and this is their last chance to infiltrate and exact revenge before Harry dies. Bleu has it all worked out with

Interview with Gaby Triana

Today I have Interview with Gaby Triana, and tomorrow I will have a review of Wake The Hollow up on the blog!!! I wanted to kick things off with a fun question, so what is your favorite book of 2016 so far? A Work of Art, by Melody Maysonet. Hauntingly disturbing and beautiful. How do you come up with the names for your characters? In Wake the Hollow, the characters’ names are all derivative of the original Legend of Sleepy Hollow characters. Micaela Caterina is named after Katrina Van Tassel (Caterina = Katrina in Spanish). Bram is derivative of Abraham or Brom, the charming town hero in the original book, and Dane Boracich is derived from Ichabod Crane, but you’ll have to read the book to find out how. Did you always want to be a writer? I’ve always been a writer, ever since Kindergarten when I penned a dramatic letter telling my mother I was running away. In 3rd grade, I wrote a short story that sounded like Mark Twain, and all throughout school, I wrote stories and
