Anatomy of a Scandal

I won a copy of the ARC in a Goodreads Giveaway. Thank you to Atria books! Trigger Warning: Rape This is told from several points of view: Kate (barrister) Sophie (the wife) James (the politician) Ali (Kate's friend) and Holly (not going to say). Kate has just lost a case, a rape case because the defense managed to make the victim look bad and it really upsets her. Sophie has just found that her husband James was carrying on a affair with a woman he worked with named Olivia. James is arrested for rape and Sophie is reeling, but oddly enough Kate is ready to destroy him. Holly's introduced and she is a friend of Sophie's in college and has met James when she was dating him. That story is told in flashbacks while in the present the trial is going against Jame. I will leave that there, because saying too much will spoil things that are meant to be unveiled at just the right time. This was a great story talking about the problems of getting justice for rape vict

The Rift

Image
I received an ARC of The Rift in exchange for a fair and balanced review. Since we pride ourselves on doing just that with all of our authors it seemed like a small price to pay for a chance to read this new story by S.L. Morgan and experience Ella Avery's story telling for the first time as well.  When I first started reading The Rift I was on the fence. I didn't hate it but I wasn't really into it either. I trust S. L. Morgan as an author so I hung in there and kept going..then a tragic accident befalls vain, shallow Cara and I swear I got whiplash at how fast this book turned itself around!!  Cara the main protagonist in the story is a stereotypical Malibu barbie character. Her life seems vain and shallow on the surface but underneath that she feels stifled by the coldness of her parents and the betrayal of her boyfriend Jeff. Needless to say Cara is confused about herself, her life, and even to some extent who her friends are. A tragic accident leaves her

Review: The Becoming of Noah Shaw by Michelle Hodkin

Image
The Becoming of Noah Shaw by Michelle Hodkin Thank you Simon & Schuster and Netgalley for a copy of the eARC in exchange for a fair review. First off if you have read the The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer and the other two books in the trilogy start there. You will understand who everyone is and who Mara and Noah are better if you read her trilogy before starting this one. I just finished this and I am still processing... I mean like I know Mara is bad, but she isn't and I love her and I am 100% on board with shipping Noah and Mara so I don't know how I feel, but I get why she did what she did. Normally I would say quite a bit more about what is going on in this book and then jump in with how I feel about it, but I wouldn't feel right spoiling any of this for Mara Dyer fans. I wasn't sure how I would feel about a book from Noah's perspective, but Michelle hit it out of the park. Just as dark and heart wrenching as the Mara trilogy. I think at this point I wi
