Fallen World

“As pretty as her body might be, it’s not what’s captivated me. I can’t look away from her face. In another life it might’ve been sweet. But not in this one. A Wicked scar slices down the side of it. It’s the most obvious warning that she’s a dangerous creature.”—Montes Lazuli Fallen World is the story of Serenity Freeman but you can’t tell Serenity’s story without Montes Lazuli. He is, after all, her boogeyman, her monster, and in the end he’ll be her catalyst. Serenity is a soldier in the Western United Nations. Over the course of her young life a cataclysmic war rages that strips her of her mother, her home, her country, and her innocence. Forced to take a life at the age of 12 due to war Serenity is not your typical hero. She’s a hardened vicious soul, broken in all the wrong places and her jagged edges will cut you bloody if you cross her. Serenity is not a shining example of goodness, some unattainable paragon of virtue and she doesn’t pretend to be. She’s the anti-hero of

The Lake of Dead Languages

Image
I read 'The Lake of Dead Languages' back in 2005 when it was first published. It was the first book of Carol Goodman's that I had ever read and this one book was so gripping that it has cemented itself as the #1 most recommended book that you should read by me.  The Lake of Dead Languages is set in the Adirondacks in an idyllic private school setting however; this is not a YA book. This a Gothic coming of age tale with just the right amount of psychological twists to keep you turning the pages, needing to know "WHAT HAPPENED?!!". The prose! The prose is so silky, so smooth it goes down like the finest chocolate. Carol Goodman's prose slips in so sweetly that you won't know you've been grabbed by the throat until you're up at 2 am with all the light on, wondering what that noise is outside. That's how good she is!!  It's been 15 years since this book made it's debut and it's still one of my most treasured stories. I've recommende

Everyone knows if you need to make a magical favor you call on the one Fairy that can give it to you, The Bargainer. Callypso Lillis is a siren with a very big, very deadly problem. Her stepfather who’s known in the supernatural world as a gifted seer ends up dead and Callie knows she’ll be next. She calls on The Bargainer for the biggest favor and once granted she knows she’ll have to pay the price. Desmond Flynn is the King of the Night but on Earth he is known as ‘The Bargainer’ and when Callypso Lillis calls him to her kitchen to make a life or death bargain he gets a shock of his own. Callie forges a friendship with Des that runs up her wrist in the form of magical IOU’s on Isle of Man until one night everything changes.   Seven years have passed, and Callie hasn’t seen or heard from ‘The Bargainer’ but everyone knows that when you make a deal with The Bargainer he always collects. Now a problem in the Otherwold leads Des back to the siren he abandoned on the Isle of

For the Best by Vanessa Lillie

Thank you to Netgalley and Thoma & Mercer for a copy of the eARC in exchange for a fair review.    Jules wakes up in the morning with her knees scrapped and half of the night she can't remember. What happened, it was supposed to be a great night for the POE Foundation, and Jules is ready to be a success and redeem her father. However, when the police show up to ask questions she knows that she is just like her father. Soon she finds out that her wallet was found next to the body of a dead man. She can't believe that she would ever hurt Terrance and begins a quest to find out what happened no matter the cost. Along the way Jules begins to lose everything from her job and her reputation... will she lose her freedom too? She is the only suspect in Terrance's murder... I am leaving this vague because spoilers and also this is a story that deserves for you to read it and let it unfold as it happens. It is wonderfully done, I find Jules annoying at times, but she does

Dark Hollows by Steve Frech

Thank you to Netgalley and HQ Digital for a copy of the eARC in exchange for a fair review. Jacob is running a successful business and building another when he gets a rather strange guest at his cottage. She remind him of a girl he used to know. But it can't be because he knows he that she is dead... After the guest leaves things begin to go wrong and Jacob begins to think he might be losing his mind. As his life is falling apart around him, he relives the memories of what happened to Laura and starts looking into the things he didn't know about her to figure out what is happening to him now... So vague I know, but there is a lot going on in this book and I am not giving things away at all. I was sucked in, although I will say it was confusing go back to the past and then being in the present, because it wasn't always clear. In fact I will say it took me longer than I am willing to admit for me to figure out what was the past. I fully admit at times I though it was just an

It's Laura Thalassa spotlight month! We'll be running two giveaways this month!

Welcome to August in the year of 2020! This year will probably go down in history as one of the wackiest, scariest, most stressful years in recent history. That's why we're running two giveaways this month. What's worse than the dog days of summer in August? The dog days of summer during the worst year in of the 2000's! So we're gonna do our best to help make staying inside the best adventure you've gone on! The first series of hers I'd like to introduce to you all is ' The Unearthly' That Awkward Moment-When a series you're reading makes you question your own morality. This series by Laura Thalassa was one of those series you pick up expecting one thing and then getting SOMETHING ELSE ENTIRELY!  The premise of the series is the 16 year old main character Gabrielle Fiori (thank you for not giving us weird, hard to pronounce names) who is accepted to an exclusive boarding school on the Isle of Man in the British Isles. Once there she learns that s
