Dark Roads by Chevy Stevens

Thank you to Goodreads and St.Martin's Press. I won a copy of the ARC in a Goodreads Giveaway.

Hailey has been warned for years about the Highway, and you can't miss the billboard on the way into town showing a First Nation woman that disappeared along this highway years ago. People believe several different killers have been hunting on the Highway of Tears since the 1970s. The number of women missing or found dead is larger then it should be. Hailey is trying to adjust to life after her Dad's death and she is living with her Aunt and her Aunt's husband a man named Vaughn that Hailey just tries to avoid in general.

She begins to wonder what all he is hiding as he tries to shut down her life and control her, especially after finding out that she is seeing Amber.Hailey decides that she can't stay with him anymore and makes plans to disappear.

Normally I would go because the second part is told mostly from Beth pov, Beth is Amber's sister and she comes to Cold Creek after Amber is found murdered. I am not saying anything you can't find out in the synopsis but there is a lot things that happen in the beginning that carry over to the second part and I don't want to give anything away.

I have read every single book by Chevy Stevens, she is a go to author for me. I will read anything she writes and this was no different. I fiercely love that she set this book on the Highway of Tears. I have read a non fiction book that tells the stories of several of the First Nation women who have died or disappeared along that highway in Canada. There are some podcasts that have done episodes on the this as well. It is staggering to know that most likely several killers have been picking off women since the 1970s and to this day haven't been caught. It is also heartbreaking when you realize that the vast majority of those women were First Nation and RCMP just wasn't interested in investigating those disappearances or murders and legit just didn't bother to stop any of the killers. If you don't know First Nation is what Canadians call their Native Americans. I loved this book, but even if wasn't my favorite I would promote it because it shines light on dark subject.
