The Chase by Candice Fox

Thank you to Netgalley and Bantam Australia for a copy of the eARC in exchange for a fair review.

Celine thinks that today will be a normal day at work. They will watch the guards and the inmates will play a game of baseball, however when the Warden gets a phone call that is broadcasted throughout the prison everyone knows today will not be a normal day. The bus carrying the guards families is stopped within sight of the prison and the driver is dead. The caller wants Grace to open the cells and release all the prisoners.

Before she can even make a decision several different guards in all the blocks start opening the cells. Celine is detained by her second in command and he opens the cells on their block. Celine knows this the worst thing ever. Their block holds the worst of the worst. When she is attacked by inmate and saved by another inmate Celine is only just starting to question everything she knows.

John Kradle is a family annihilator, and Celine hates him with a passion. But he claims he is innocent and begins contacting her while on the run. First, he saves her life, then he saves another woman's life from the serial killer who has decided that Kradle is his best friend. Soon, Celine is trying to figure out if Kradle is innocent or an evil killer.

I have to say I loved this book. Actually I have really enjoyed everything I have read by Candice Fox so far. I do have one negative about the book the side stories about the other escapees was a little distracting. It took away from the main story I think. I really liked Celine even though she had her annoying moments, but the real star of the book is John Kradle. His character shines, you are hooked and want to know what really happened and what will happen.
