Review of Fate of Flames by Sarah Raughley

Fate of Flames by Sarah Raughley

Thank you to Simon and Schuster and Netgalley for a copy of the eARC in exchange for a fair review.

Maia has recently discovered that she is an Effigy, in fact, the Fire Effigy, which to her is just about the worst thing possible. Since her whole family died in a fire just over a year ago. She is Natalya's replacement. Once Belle and Rhys find her they are on a mission to find the other Effigies so that they can fight against the phantoms and figure out who Saul is.

Maia is really struggling to figure out her powers and for most the book really it doesn't happen. However, when she first meets Saul she discovers that the Effigies can tap into memories of previous Effigies. Saul is really concerned with talking to Marian. Maia soon discovers that Natalya's mysterious death is wrapped up in the mystery of a Saul. She is in a race against time to discover Natalya's clues and figure out what it all means. Will she lose herself in the process? Will she be able to overcome her fear of fire in order to be the hero she desperately wants to be?

I will say my epub was missing the first couple pages of every chapter so the fact that I loved this story despite all my missing information should tell you how good it is. I am going to get my hands on this book so I can read it again because I am positive that my feeling will only rise once I can read it all.

I loved Maia, she had very real fears, she was afraid, she was brave, and so many other things. She really brought the four other Effigies together and in such way that made them all stronger. Belle was a major pain, but really authentic. I loved Chae Rin and Lake though once Maia got through to them, I loved how they supported and helped her the whole way through.

I am really looking forward to what Book 2 will bring! I know a lot of people are saying Pacific Rim and Sailer Moon vibes, well I haven't seen Sailer Moon so I can't compare. I have seen Pacific Rim and I do get that comparison. It actually made me think of The Reckoners series. Just the same vibe I felt when I read both books. So hurry up and read this!!!

Review of Cursing Fate by Brenda Drake

Cursing Fate by Brenda Drake (The Fated #2)

Thank you to Entangled Teen and Netgalley for a copy of the eARC in exchange for a fair review.

You may remember I reviewed Touching Fate (The Fated#1) a few weeks back! So Cursing Fate focuses on Iris and Wade. Iris and Wade are just working on being friends after she shredded his heart awhile back. Well in book 1, if you remember her older sister Aster changed her fate and that caused her to break up with Wade. Iris needs a tutor and Wade agrees to do it. Iris is also struggling with her friends several of them have let her down one way or another recently.

Soon Iris begins to hear a voice and is drawn to the cards, but she knows she isn't a fate changer like her sister.  To her horror, she can seem to resist the mysterious voice and what it wants to her to do to her friends and other people she goes to school with. Will Wade be able to figure out what is going on before it's too late? Will Daisy and Violet be able to get the tarot cards back and change fate?

I really liked Iris and Wade. They were cute and he really cared about her. I wasn't a complete fan of the storyline, just some aspects seemed a little confusing to me. I know that is vague but I hate giving away spoilers. The friendships in this book were just amazing, I know that some of them had let Iris down or hurt her sister, but the way it all came, together, in the end, is what a real friendship resembles.

If I would have to hazard a guess there will be at least two more books, but I am only guessing because there are only these two listed on Goodreads. Daisy and Violet played really big roles in this book and based on the ending I would guess there is at least one more book coming. I really enjoyed the second book and secretly or not so secretly hope to read about another of the Layne sisters.

Review of The Bad Boy Bargain by Kendra C. Highley

Review of The Bad Boy Bargain by Kendra C. Highley

Thanks to Netgalley and Entangled Teen for a copy of the eArc in exchanged for a fair review.

Kyle is bad boy hiding some big secrets, and Faith is a good girl with a problem. Kyle is working hard to make everyone think he is a nothing but trouble. Faith is dating Cameron until they hit a party one night, and when she can't find him, she goes looking for him. She finds caught in the act, and by the next day, he has told everyone how he dumped her because she is an ice princess.

Faith decides that she needs revenge and when she sees Kyle working in her yard, she knows just what she is going to get back at Cameron. Once she explains everything Kyle is completely on board because he hates Cameron and has his own reasons for getting back at him. Soon everyone realizes that this just isn't about revenge.

I was interested in this book, everyone loves a little revenge right and bad boys. I secretly admit that I thought was going to be a cliched reform the bad boy romance. However, I was pleasantly surprised and thoroughly on board with the fact he wasn't a bad boy at all. In fact, Kyle was the complete opposite. He had spent all of high school making it seem like he was in trouble and experienced when he was actually super sweet and not experienced at all.

I loved Faith and Kyle they were both really good people and so freaking adorable with really great friends.  I sat down and read this book from cover to cover it was so good. If you looking for a little bit of revenge and some romance this is the book for you!

Review of Irresistible Jerk (Dirty Minds#2) by Mira Stanley

Irresistible Jerk (Dirty Minds#2) by Mira Stanley

Thank you to the author for a copy of the eArc in exchange for a fair review.

Okay if you haven't read Good Girl, stop and go get it! It's free currently on kindle! Seriously won't take a second!

If you just want to read the review then you can wait I guess. I read both Good Girl and Irresistible Jerk today. They are short, fun and uber hot little stories!

Irresistible Jerk literally picks up a few hours after the ending of Good Girl. Joe wakes up and goes at it, okay not quite like that, but close enough. Oh if I forgot to mentions these are Erotic Romances! Very adult! Without ruining the story the plot of this is that Joe is a tatted up, foul mouth bad boy and Kelly is a church going, very prim and proper virgin.  She has decided that she wants to have no strings attached fun with Joe.

The flip side of this is that Joe very much has feelings for her, he was crushing on her in Good Girl before they actually met. In this one, I would say both of them struggle with boundaries and trying not to cross them, and well I won't say exactly but I think a 3rd person will come into play with them as well. At least that is the feeling I got while reading certain parts of this. I could be wrong and when you read this you should know exactly what I am talking about.

There were some things I wasn't overly fond of like at times Joe was a jerk, but I get that he was trying to stay in a role. I thought Kelly was a tad snobby and way too worried about what her family things. I was a little mad about another situation (which I can't tell you because spoilers...) but at the same time, I am kind of intrigued to see where Mira goes with this story.

I really enjoyed both books, they were super quick and fun to read. I will be looking forward to reading the next one when it comes out!

Review of Touching Fate by Brenda Drake

Touching Fate by Brenda Drake

Thank you to Entangled Teen and NetGalley for a copy of the eArc in exchange for a fair review!

I receive these lovely emails from Entangled and from there I can request to review books from them. They had Cursing Fate on the list, and I wanted too, but I hadn't read the first book, but then I saw that they were offering copies of Touching Fate so that you could read and review both books for Entangled. So I jumped on that chance as Touching Fate has been on TBR since January of this year. If that seems like a long time, don't worry I have books on there from two years ago!

Aster is grounded in the physical world, she looks to science to solve things she doesn't understand. Until one day she touches some tarot cards and is literally shocked. She also ends up with a strange mark on the inside of her wrist. Reece is cursed-boy from Europe and he is in America spending his last few months with his friends when he witnesses what happens to Aster.

He immediately realizes she is a fate changer and she can change his fate so that he doesn't die. He intends to make her fall in love with him and uses Miri the tarot card reading to help train Aster so that she can indeed change his fate.  As his relationship progresses, Reece realizes he might be the one in danger of being in love. Will he be able to tell her the truth? Will the relationship survive?

This was a super cute fast paced read. I was able to finish it all in one setting. I am not really sure how I felt about the main characters initially. Both of them were a tad flawed, however, I loved how Reece grew throughout the book. Also, I loved how Aster dealt with everything once she realized the true cost behind fate-changing.

Overall despite the heavy subjects at times, this was a fun light-hearted book. I am really looking forward to seeing what Cursing Fate brings to the plate! I will be reviewing that one here as well, so check back later in the month for that review!

Excerpt #1

“What’s in it for me?”

Her brows slammed together. No one expressed affront like my sunshine. “What do you mean what’s in it for you? Same thing that’s in it for me. Sex. Lots of hot, adventurous sex.”

“Hate to break it to you, sweetheart, but I can get that anywhere.”

Her eyes went round and wounded.

I lifted her chin to make her look at me. “Not saying that to hurt you.” Never to hurt her. To make it right, I was willing to lay a bit of myself on the line. “Look, you’re asking me to be in your bed without giving me what I really want, which is a girlfriend I can take out and spoil and show off to everybody. Instead, you want to keep me a secret. If I’m gonna go along with this, I want something in return.”

Her slender throat moved with a swallow. “What do you want in return?”

“You wanna live out your fantasies with me? I want the same deal. I get to live mine out with you.”
She blinked, like the idea of me having fantasies surprised her.

“We got a deal?” I asked before she could think too hard and long about it. “I mean, it’s only fair, right?”

She narrowed her eyes. “Depends on what your fantasies are like.”

“Honey, I can tell you one thing. They’re more vanilla than yours.”

Skeptical didn’t begin to explain the way that one eyebrow arched.

“Deal?” I held out my hand.

She grasped it. “Deal.”

About Mira Stanley

Mira dreams of a life where hairy-chested, foul-mouthed pool men serve cocktails while she reads in the embrace of a shady hammock. Her reality looks more like errands, carpooling, sneaking in writing time when she can, and snuggling with her husband and kids after a regular-old day in the Pacific Northwest.

Sex is sacred. It’s also fun. That’s why Mira writes smut with feeling. In her perfect world, every woman who wants it would have access to entertaining, titillating, thought-provoking stories in an environment free of shame.

Some gals like new shoes as a reward for a job well done. Mira prefers reviews and comments from readers. As long as they have arch support.

Review of Forget Me Always by Sara Wolf

Forget Me Always by Sara Wolf

Thanks to Entangled Teen and Netgalley for a copy of the eArc in exchange for a fair review.

First, if you have not read Love Me Never stop reading and start there. No, seriously start there, because you wouldn't understand what is going on in Forget Me Always if you try to read it first. Plus you would be missing all the amazing feels of the first book...

Now, Isis, Kayla, Jack, Avery, and Wren are back. This book picks up literally a copy of weeks after the cliffhanger ending of book 1. Isis is in the hospital, she has finally met Sophia and still can't remember Jack.  It takes several weeks for Isis to realize that she has a form of amnesia due to the head trauma, and she literally can't remember Jack or anything that had to do with him.

While it may seem that this book is kind of about Isis remembering Jack and everything that has already happened it is not all that happens. While Isis is remembering, she begins to uncover some of the major secrets from book 1. Like what it is that Jack, Wren, Avery and Sophia have been hiding for years. If you have read Love Me Never, you might think you know that answer, but you don't.

Plus Nameless is back, and we find out more about why he traumatized Isis so badly. Trigger warning... won't give away spoiler but it is a trigger warning.  He is back in a bad way too making his creepy presence felt.

I want to say so much more, but spoilers. Needless to say, this was an epic follow up. I loved every minuted of it. I devoured this book from start to finish in one reading. I still majorly love Isis, Jack, Kayla, Wren and Avery who is actually a little less evil in this book. In fact, I sincerely need the last book like stat... I mean stat, because she leaves you with a major cliffhanger in this book as well.
