The Lonely Dead by April Henry

Image
I won this in a Goodreads Giveaway. I also want to thank Henry Holt & Co and Netgalley for a copy of the eARC in exchange for a fair review. Adele can see the dead, well she hasn't for awhile because she has been taking her meds. But lately she hasn't been which is why she is shocked when her friend Tori calls her name as she is walking home from the park. However, she notices immediately that she is dead or well she doesn't want to notice that. So despite not wanting to draw attention to herself she makes the call from a payphone to report the body. Soon Adele finds herself in the middle of investigation and if she isn't careful she might just get arrested for her friend's murder. So this is brief and spoilers, but I also want to talk about a few things. I have read most of April's other books and this just kind of fell flat for me. It had so much potential, the plot, the storyline, and even most of the characters. Sadly I can't even rave about

What we buried by Kate A. Boorman

Thanks to Henry Holt & Co and Netgalley for a copy of the eARC in exchange for a fair review. Liv and Jory are on the verge of life changing news. Liv has sued their parents for emancipation and everyone knows they are going to win. But just as Jory is heading up the stairs with their parents everything changes in the blink of an eye. They just disappear.  Soon Liv and Jory are heading to a remote cabin to figure out what their parents are up and what is going on. One weird tripping ride later here I am. So like I am super vague now, but for two reasons one I am still wondering what I read and what really was happening in the book so that makes it hard to write a review when you are unsure of what was actually going on and two spoilers. Like you might be smarter than me so I don't want to ruin the book for you. That being said this was super compelling because I was trying really hard to figure out what was going on and what had happened. Sadly I did not figure that out

Thank you St. Martin's Press and Netgalley for a copy of the eARC in exchange for a fair review. First this book is not yet released, you can pre-order on Amazon or wherever you get books from. It will be released Feb 5, 2019. Second I fully admit this would not be a book I would normally seek or pick out to read. Usually my book clubs get me out of my wheelhouse, but this time I was emailed with per-approval for the ARC. So I thought why not. I didn't bother to look at the synopsis or even glance at what it would be about. Anna has just been admitted to 17 Swann Street, she has anorexia, recently she has started passing out as her weight has dropped to a dangerous level. She does not want to be there, but her husband has made her. All of her family is concerned about the weight loss since they moved to America. Anna isn't be honest about her eating or what has got her here. As she begins to get to know the other women at 17 Swann Street, Anna has to start confron

Thank you to St.Martin's Press and Netgalley for a copy of the eARC in exchange for fair review. Liza and Molly have finally sat down to a skype call and too catch up. When Molly steps away for a minute to take care of one her children. Liza is shocked when sees something on the video. Then everything descends into chaos as they all try to figure out the next steps to fixing their lives. So this is like super vague, but after kind of looking at the synopsis I just didn't want to give anything away. Which I kind of always say so just count on me to so vague you can't stand it, but hopefully it pulls you in and makes you want to read this. I am not always sure how to feel after I read a novel by Jessica. This is my 3rd one and I think I have always felt the same way when I am done. I often go into the story expecting one thing and it turns out completely different from what I thought it would be. This was true of this novel as well. I was thinking more of a mystery bu

Thanks to Gallery Books and Netgalley for a copy of the eARC in exchange for a fair review. Charlotte has finally got Harriet to let her watch Alice. So as she heads out the the fair with her three kids and Alice she doesn't realize this is going to be the worst day ever. At first everything is fine, but as the kids head off the Jungle Run and Charlotte takes her eyes off of them for one minute it all changes. She sees Jake and Molly, but their is no sign of Alice. Charlotte frantically begins searching for Alice and calling the police, but no one can find Alice. It is a person's worst nightmare being entrusted to watch someone else's child and losing them. Charlotte feels so guilty. Then the online attacks begin, and a journalist finds out about the time Charlotte lost Jake.. Wow I did not see this one coming, like I thought I knew what it would be about, and then I thought it was something else, and then I thought this and by the time I got what was going on my mi

Thanks to Transworld Digital and Netgalley for a copy of the eARC in exchange for a fair review. This is told from multiple POV's, it includes Alex's mother, the reporter (Kate), the detective and emails and posts from Alex's POV as well. It all starts with an odd phone call to the reporter from her son Jake who is Thailand, but she doesn't quite get what he is trying to say and she doesn't get to speak to him. The mother is worried because she hasn't heard from Alex in days, and her Rosie's mother is worried as well, because she hasn't heard from her either. Soon the detectives are involved and everyone is wondering about the two girls. I made this shorter than usual because there is a lot that is slowly revealed, in fact I edited out some that I had revealed after looking at the synopsis of the story. To be honest I wasn't thrilled when I saw that it would contain several different POV, but this one really flowed, you knew who each person was
