This is one is at least about family!!

If you have not read

Then stop right now and go read this one first!!! Otherwise you will be totally lost.
I received a copy of an e-arc from Netgalley and Entangled Teen.

Ascendancy by Karri Thompson
This book picks up right where book one ends. Although I will say the way Mirror X ends makes you think Cassie and Michael have been recaptured.  Ascendancy is certainly action packed. Cassie and Michael are on the run trying to get back Cassie's twin daughters. They are just barely staying ahead of the opposition.
Cassie continues to be lied to, and let down. She and Michael believe they are going to be reunited with their daughters in another region only to find that their daughters aren't there and no one knows where they are. They barely escape with their lives from Mia. They head back to Trail's to get help again only to find that he has been taken.  At this point they try to contact the resistance and end up with Victoria taken into hiding so that they can continue with their search for the twins.
Will they find them?

I hope that this is a middle book, I haven't been able to find any information about a book 3 and if that is the case it would change how I feel about the book a tad, because this book definitely ends like a middle book, some resolution but with a for sure cliffhanger. There were some major twists in this book that I seriously want to squeal about but can't because spoilers so needless to say if you enjoyed book 1 then you must read this one!

I still love Cassie, and feel horrible for her. It feels like from the moment she awoke, she has been lied to, used and manipulated. It almost feels like it is never going to end and that still frustrates me. I really just want her to kick butt and take names. I am still not quite into her and Michael but I don't hate them either. This book was so fast paced and action packed that I felt like I was just flying threw the whole book. I loved it, it was a great follow-up and I still adore the realistic premise of these novels! So if you are looking for a futuristic sci-fi feel than look no further The Van Wrinkle Project series is so good. Realistic, gritty and a little dark!

I know, I know warm and fuzzy..yeah not so much

I got a free copy of this from JellyBooks LTD.
I know this month was supposed to be warm and fuzzy and this isn't the warmest or fuzziest book at all. I have seen blurbs talking about it being like Gone Girl or Girl on the train and I just can't agree with this. Is the book dark and sort of twisty, yes but not in a Gone Girl vibe and not on  Girl on train either.

Tiffani Fanelli is a girl that reinvented herself, she even has dropped the Tiff and just goes by Ani and her life is pretty perfect now. She has a great career, all the right clothes and even the very right upper crust fiance. But she just isn't very happy, and we learn slowly over the course of the book the events that she is hiding in her new life.

Normally I am not a spoilers kind of person and I really will go out of my avoid to them, but from here on out if you don't want to know stop reading!

Tiffani (spelled funky in the book for reasoning's I still haven't grasped) is a fat unhappy catholic girl that gets into some prestigious high school, and finds that it's filled with assholes.  They torture, rape and abuse her and other kids until one day it all goes wrong.

Getting a little ahead of myself and I dropped some major spoilers there but when I get to what I don't like about the book I have to bring those up. In fact the only person that is really kind to her is Arthur, a fat gay boy... yeah see where this is going.  They strike up a friendship and Arthur really stands up for her, but when he tells her how he really feels the friendship explodes and then so does everything else when Arthur and Ben attack the high school in a Columbine type shooting, except they solely target the kids that attacked them and bullied them, and when Arthur turns on Tiffani well spoilers... I won't spoil that!!!

First of it may seem like I didn't like the book I did, it took a little bit for me to get into it and that's because initially I had  no idea where it was going, the flashbacks didn't help and I was on the verge of giving up because I had no clue when it was all going to be uncovered. Except it did start making sense and I really wanted and needed to know what the heck happened. When I read about the shooting I was totally shocked, I didn't see that coming and what happened after that kind of floored me, so I rated this a four on good reads because I did really enjoy the book.

That being said here was my only major issue, I don't know if it was because the character was cold and out of touch with herself but everything bad that happened, from the bullying and the rape, and the shooting didn't strike any emotional cord with me. I didn't even feel bad (and that's horrible to admit) but really all I could think was those kids were assholes, so I connected on the anger level towards the bullies and the rapists' but I didn't connect with Tiffani when those things happened to her and the shooting at the school. I think if I would have connected I probably would have rated this a five, because these are some heavy hitting issues and this book could have packed a major emotional wallop with it all done right.

Last Halloween read is a twisty creepy ride!!!

Review of Dead Ringer by Jessie Rosen

I received a copy of this Arc via Netgalley!!!

Where to start....I mean seriously so Laura Rivers starts her first day at school to find everyone staring at her in horror. The only person who even attempts to be nice is Charlie... then she finds out the reason, everyone thinks she looks like Sarah who killed herself almost two years ago.

She begins go get closer to Charlie, only to see him falling apart as someone closes in on his secrets...

The book is told from three pov's Laura's, Sasha, and Charlie... Sadly I cannot say too much about Sasha other than she is on the hunt to find out what happened to Sarah.  I can say this is a dark twisty thriller that will keep the shocks coming.

Honestly I hate the fact that I can't say too much with spoiling things, but I can say this Sasha messes with Charlie and his three friends once she finds out that know more about what happened the night Sarah died. Laura and Charlie have a interesting relationship/friendship... All I can say is once the major twist is unveiled that's when this book gets Gone Girl on you. I mean it like some dark twisty in major ways.

Honestly I liked them all in the beginning other than Amanda who is clearly the unlikeable character in this book, however, by the end of the book I didn't like any of them... I was just shocked, disgusted and so many other words.

I thought this was a standalone but it ended on a major cliffhanger so I hope or sincerely hope that the author has a book 2 planned, because this girl needs to know how this ends and if anyone can get out of the craziness alive.

So if you looking for something along the lines of Gone Girl in Ya this book is so for you, even when I sort of suspected a couple of things I was still like literally put the book down shocked when it was unveiled. This book is so good!

Release Date Teaser from Amelia Hutchins!!!

Trolling through Facebook and checking in with our authors pages I ran across the following Book Warning and it was just so much win that I HAD to share it here with you all!!

Warning from A Demon's Dark Embrace
Warning! This book is intended for mature and adult audiences.
A Demon’s Dark Embrace is the first book in The Elite Guards Series. This is a companion series to The Fae Chronicles Series; Reading The Fae Chronicles is not absolutely required to enjoy The Elite Guards Series, however you will have a much greater enjoyment of it if you do. The first book of The Fae Chronicles Series is Fighting Destiny and it can be found with reputable book sellers for your convenience.
A Demon’s Dark Embrace tells the behind the scenes story that the reader did not see in Seducing Destiny and then some! Just like The Fae Chronicles Series: If you prefer adorable and sparkly Fairies, Demons and Vampires…look elsewhere.
This story is told in narrative format rather than the first person. The story is dark, gritty, tear jerking, panty soaking, edge of seat grabbing, and does have some questionable scenes that more sensitive readers may not enjoy. It does contain hot asshole alphas that seduce and wreck sensibilities. Explicit language is used liberally as is the use of magic in acts of naughtiness. The author strongly advises buying batteries or securing a willing victim to your bed while reading this book. (Handcuffs are optional.) Side effects include, but are not limited to: lip biting and/ or chewing, screaming at the author, wet panties, unexplained leaking from the eyes, or other parts of the body. Some people may experience strange attachment to characters, and may scream for the next book in the series immediately after reading. If you experience one or more of these symptoms, do not seek a health care professional. Thank the author and wait for the next book in the series. (Stalking the author is normal behavior. Rest assured she has already started the next in the series.)

I freely admit I've been internet stalking this book. Ristan is one of my all time favorite secondary characters from a series and I am beyond excited and thrilled to read his own story. Since the release date is also printed on the book we'll just call this post a release date teaser!!!

Can I say to you all that I'm insanely jealous that I didn't think up that book warning myself! Ah well there in lies the difference between us reviewers and the writers themselves.

Excuse me while I go scream in anticipation of my favorite Elite Guard Ristan!

Yummier than Pumpkin Spice Latte and Caramel Apples

Recently I was asked who my favorite book boyfriends are and IMMEDIATELY I was like Valek and Janco from Poison Study. That author suggested I write a review of just why those two are so yummylicious and, well, how could I resist gushing to you all about how delectable Valek is and how funny Janco is. Obvi I couldn't resist and so you here for your viewing pleasure I give you Valek and Janco from Maria Snyder's Poison Study trilogy.

Valek is Commander Ambrose's assassin and spymaster for the whole of Ixia (the northern country for those who haven't read the books) and he's resistant to magic. Well that's kind of misleading really it's not that he's necessarily resistant to magic so much as that he's got this permanent null shield that surrounds him and no I can't tell you why because that would give up the whole plot twist and I'm not that mean. Valek has piercing sapphire blue eyes and shoulder length curly black hair. He's described as being both tall and lanky and his nickname is the GHOST. If that's not enough to sell you on why Valek should make your top 10 of insanely hot book boyfriends here's one more clincher he's totally loyal to his people. He believes so much in the Commander and his country that he goes to great lengths to ensure the safety of everyone in Ixia. Valek is the heartmate of Yelena the main character in the Poison Study series and what he's willing to go through and what he does for her will make you swoon with ooo's and ahhh's.

One of my favorite Valek quotes to Yelena is:

“Yelena, you've driven me crazy. You've caused me considerable trouble and I've contemplated ending your life twice since I've known you." Valek's warm breath in my ear sent a shiver down my spine.

"But you’ve slipped under my skin, invaded my blood and seized my heart.”

“That sounds more like a poison than a person,” was all I could say. His confession had both shocked and thrilled me.

“Exactly,” Valek replied. “You have poisoned me.”
Maria V. Snyder, Poison Study

Janco my boy my favorite of the POWER TWINS he's the opposite of his best friend Ari, the other half of the power twins, and he's funny, mischievous, and he loves a good fight. Janco befriends Yelena after a military exercise where he and Ari are the only two of the Commanders soldiers to actually find and bring her back. Janco is witty and light footed and he LOVES to talk. One of the things that drew me to his character right off was his willingness to teach Yelena to defend herself when she was assigned as the Commander's poison taster. He didn't give one fig for what anyone else said about her or give any real credence to the castle gossip he saw a young girl who was asking for nothing more than the ability to protect herself from some pretty nasty people and him and Ari took her under their wing. Janco loves to rhyme out loud when he's sparring and some of the things he comes up with will have you in stitches they are that funny. Yelena figures out pretty early on that Janco does this to both throw his opponents off balance and to help him keep his rhythm while fighting.  Like Valek, Janco is very loyal and though he may come across as a carefree guy who has no worries if you threaten one of his friends you'll end up on his black list and this man has some serious fighting skillz. He puts his own life in Yelena's hands on more than one occasion because he believes in her that much. Janco and Ari love Yelena like a little sister and respect her like a soldier respects his captain.

One of Janco's fighting songs that cracked me up to no end:

“One, and two, and three, four, five. Keep fighting like this and you will die," Janco sang.”
― Maria V. SnyderPoison Study

“Before Kiki and I headed toward the Keep, I thanked my friends.
“For what? We didn’t do anything,” Janco grumbled.
“For caring enough to follow my guards. And the next time, I might need the help.”
“There better not be a next time,” Ari said, giving me a stern look.
“How touching,” Janco said, pretending to wipe his eyes.
“Get going, Yelena. I don’t want you to see me cry.” He faked a sniffle.
“I’m sure your ego can handle it,” I said. “Or will you need to beat up some trainees to feel like a man again?”
“Very funny,” he said.”
― Maria V. SnyderPoison Study

The power twins were so popular as secondary characters in this trilogy Maria wrote them their own short story called Power Study. Here's what I imagine Janco looks like, tell me he's not swoon worthy.

I have lots of other book boyfriends I like to revisit on occasion but these two, le sigh, they've stuck with me throughout the long years. I read these books when they first came out almost 15 years ago and I have to say they just get better with age.

This book! The Stars Never Rise by Rachel Vincent is seriously epic! I first heard about it on Twitter when a Book Blogger Friend Nancy aka @TheCharmingLass received a copy of it! When I saw the cover I knew it was love at first sight! When I finally got it from the Library and finished the first chapter I knew it was going to be epic so I tweeted Rachel Vincent to tell her I knew it was going to be epic! She responded right away and is so nice!

This is how I felt at the end of the book

It was serious! Nina’s biggest worry in the book is making to 18 so she can take care of her family because her mother the drug addict is not going too. In her world there was a war against Demons and Humans won due to the Church. The Church saved them all! So this right here makes it so different from anything I have read lately. The only thing that even comes close is Shutter by Courtney Alameda. (which is seriously awesome as well) Both books have a similar vibe and semi similar themes but completely different world building. Sadly for you lot I can’t give away too much because this is a book that pulls you and when you find out the truth it gut punches you!
