The Dusk Gate Chronicles Boxed Set, Books 1-4 by Breeana Puttroff My rating: 5 of 5 stars Have you ever read a book so vivid it stayed with you long after you finished it? A book that crept into your dreaming mind and left you with full vivid dreams that you remembered even after you woke up? This book, or should I say books since it's the first four books in the series did exactly that! I was in a reading funk looking for something completely different to cleanse my reading palate and now I'm hooked on this world. This is sort of a combination of sci-fi, with it's alternate dimension, a love story that transcends worlds (literally), some high fantasy with a struggle to reclaim her throne and some of the most memorable characters I've come across in a long time. Fans of S.L. Morgan's Guardians series will love this one. There are a lot of the same elements and story tropes found in both books with one exception...The Dusk Gate Chr

A review of A hold on Me by Pat Esden

Image
A Hold On Me by Pat Esden Thank you to Netgalley for a copy of this arc in exchange for a fair review! I don't even know where to start with this! I don't know what I expected, some romance with some thrills, but this was so much more! I liked the cover and I read the synopsis and thought okay this will give me a bit of love and all the darkness I just have to have! I didn't expect a few things, and I am still deciding if it would spoiler to review some of that! Annie (Stephanie) is a buyer of antiques and artifacts, and she is with her father when they make a purchase that seems innocent enough. Until her dad begins to change, and Annie desperately covers for him until a mistake with an antique poison ring alerts her father's lawyer that something is wrong. After she loses a battle with her Aunt and Grandfather over guardianship of her father, Annie returns to the home, her father fled from many years ago. Immediately things begin to change, and as Annie noti

Happily Ever After... Review of Love me Love me not by Alyxandra Harvey.

Love Me, Love Me Not By Alyxandra Harvery Thank you to Netgalley for a copy of the Arc in exchange for a fair review.     Okay I really wanted to love this, but it fell short for me. I will get into the good, and bad here in a minute. I have read and loved other books by Alyxandra Harvey and will continue to do so. I picked this book and really didn't read the synopsis. I thought the cover looked great and I wanted to review some romance this month.... so then I saw reviews and no one was impressed and that worried me a tad, but I don't normally let anyone's opinion sway me, because I often find that what appeals to me can totally be unappealing to someone else. So if you look at reviews as your sole recommendation for reading a book, I think you should stop! lol no seriously you can use to as a tool, but I would never let another person's opinion make that decision for you. You may miss out on something wonderful for you. The Good:       I love the Romeo and J

It's Chloe Neill Day!!!

Image
Chloe Neill is with us today and she has graciously answered a few of the questions that you all submitted to her. 1. Is there a chance of a spin off series that focuses on the next generation of these characters? I have many ideas for book series of all varieties, but there are no concrete plans at this time. There will be 13 Chicagoland Vampires books and at least 3 Devil's Isle books. 2: Does Merit have shifter blood in her lineage? Nope! She was entirely human before becoming a vampire. 3: Does Mallory become an Ombusdman in this book or is she still going to become connected to House Cadogen as discussed in House Rules? Mallory is not an Ombudsman employee, and she doesn't work for Cadogan House. She does volunteer for both. 4: Midnight Marked is the second to last book in the Chicagoland Vampire Series. How do you feel about being so close to end of their story? I'll begin writing the last Chicagoland Vampires novel very soon (probably

Favorite Couples from Romance's

Image
We only have a week and half left in the month of February and with that in mind here's your list of our favorite couples from Romance Novels. Our number one pick from the New Adult Contemporary Romance Genre is Lily and Lo from the "Addicted"  Series. This series has everything we loved from this genre. It was placed in today's time frame so the technology and situations were relatable to almost everyone. What can I say about this book that hasn't been said before? The main character Lily Calloway is an invisible heiress to a soda company with a shameful, dark, addiction and her best friend Loren Hale is the heir to Hale Industries a family based company that manufactures baby items. She's a sex addict and He's an alcoholic. The Addicted series will take you on a no holds barred journey through two people's struggle to confront their addictions, and the damage it's done to their families and friends all while finding themselves and their love

Like your romance dark, twisted, and Gothic? Dark Hero is the next book for you.

It's fairly rare that a piece of fiction catches me off guard and sends me sideways down the rabbit hole and yet this novel did exactly that! I'm ashamed to say that I pre-judged this book by it's cover. I saw the traditional bodice ripping, dime store paperback, romance novel cover and ALMOST  didn't read it. As it is I pushed off reading this book for months and it was only now that I'm going through my TBR list of books that I decided to give this a chance and I'm so glad that I did. Lily Silver this book cover does not do this story justice at all! This is hands down the best gothic romance story I've read in YEARS! It has everything lovers of the Bronte Sister, Bram Stoker, and Thomas Hardy could ask for. It's dark and twisted and so, so Gothic!! I did not see this coming at all I began reading this book expecting one thing and ended up with something spectacular. The book begins in England with the main character Elizabeth O'Flaherty as

Review: Almost Midnight

Image
Almost Midnight by Teresa McCarthy My rating: 3 of 5 stars Almost Midnight, was a free read from Amazon and it was surprisingly good. I had never heard of this author before and I was taking a chance on her story. The book begins with a prophetic dream of when she'll meet her soulmate and it just gets more cinderella-ish from there. You won't be let down by this free read from Amazon and there are more books in the series if you want to stay and play in her universe for awhile. View all my reviews

Fans of Neil Gaiman, R.L. Stine, and the Witching Hour will LOVE Grimm House!!

Image
Ohhhh This book!!! This is the second Karen McQuestion book we've been lucky enough to review on our blog and her stories just get better and better. This book is written for middle schoolers so think age range between 12-14 years old. That being said I read this book with my 9 year old son and he and I both LOVED it. This book has so many shades of creepy it's hard to pin it down but I'm going to try. If you were a kid in the 90's you probably read a lot of R.L. Stine and his wildly successful horror series Goosebumps. This book is like a combination of that and Neil Gaiman's Coraline. It's creepy and hauntingly beautiful. The book begins with a young 10 year old girl Hadley whose parents are away on a cruise trip. Hadley is a dancer she has natural talent and the dedication to practice for hours to improve her natural talent. In other words Hadley has PASSION for dancing. This is important to note because passion is what the two "Aunts" are a

Happily Ever After... or maybe not?

November 9 By Colleen Hoover In honor of Valentine's Day, my first HEA is November 9 by Colleen Hoover. This is or was my second book by her and I admit that I fully intend to keep reading all of her books, because the feels...the feels are something else. I first read Ugly Love, and a lot of people complain about the book, but I think the title suits it and the book was a total tear fest and so many feels. So I was a little apprehensive about reading November 9, and I was totally right, I cried and cried during this book. Fallon and Ben meet by total chance when he pretends to be her boyfriend while she is having a horrible dinner with her father. They hang out after and agree to not have any contact and to met again in one year at the same place. And so it begins while they want to make sure what they have is real, so every year it's no contact and meeting on the same date every year. All during the year the struggle with their feelings for each other and the things

This week we've brought you our favorite literary couples from classical pieces of work, our first February book review on Dark and Twisted Love in MISSING PIECES by Heather Gudenkauf and now as promised by us here is your first HEA book review! For those that are new to the Romance genre of fiction there are certain acronyms that are used to describe the "flavor" of that particular romance novel. Kicking off February with a bang!!!

Missing Pieces By Heather Gudenkauf Thank you to Netgalley for a copy of the Arc.       Where to start, I started reading Heather Gudenkauf almost by accident. A friend of mine was talking about The Weight of Silence and I was intrigued, so I read it and liked it. Then I joined this book club on Goodreads and decided to catch up on past reads so I picked up Little Mercies and was blown away, and then I read One Breath Away, and well you see where this is going. I have read all but one of her past books, so when I saw this on Netgalley I had to request it. Jack and Sarah are returning to Penny Gate after his Aunt Julia fell down the stairs. Sarah believes a lot of things about Jack's past, but within days begins to find out there are a lot of things he hasn't told her, including what really happened to his mother and father, and that he lied to her about pretty much everything. Sarah begins to wonder what else her husband is hiding from her and begins to investiga

Classic Literary Couples of the Ages

Image
We love our fictional couples here at the Book Whisperers and we've dedicated entire blog posts to awesomeness of such couples as, Ethan and Merit (Methan) and Tamlin and Feyre (A Court of Thorns and Roses) but like most people we began our love of literary couples long before these stories existed. In honor the authors that came before us we've listed our favorite literary couples that have inspired everything from love to lust throughout the ages. Up first is Vladislav Basarab Dracul and his soulmate Mina. We'd like to thank Bram Stoker for taking this real life Romanian hero and turning him into a bloodsucking fiend of the night with a heart. Where would Ethan and Merit, Cat and Bones, Spade and Denise, be without Bram Stokers Dracula and Mina pioneering the way. If you haven't read the original Dracula by Bram Stoker then we HIGHLY encourage you to pick up that classic and read it. It's pionent and dark and moving in ways that almost defy description. You
